Since our establishment in 1981, the Free Trade Zone Manufacturers’ Association (FTZMA) has grown significantly, strengthening strong ties with key statutory bodies, including the Board of Investment (BOI) of Sri Lanka. Our collaboration with the BOI has enabled us to effectively overcome challenges and address investor issues.
We also maintain robust connections with other crucial statutory bodies such as Sri Lanka Customs, the Central Bank, the Ports Authority, and the Ministry of Labour. Their support, along with that of our affiliated associations, has been invaluable to our success.

In 2023, our members faced significant challenges due to global and local financial crises. Economic slowdowns in major export destinations, increased taxes, unfavourable forex rates, and rising commodity costs have impacted our competitiveness. Many exporters have downsized or relocated, with SMEs being particularly affected.
Despite these obstacles, FTZMA has worked tirelessly to ensure that BOI enterprises maintain sustainable and resilient operations. By minimizing risks and exploring new avenues for business sustainability, we have successfully navigated this difficult period with the support of the BOI and other stakeholders.
Looking ahead, we remain optimistic about our collective ability to adapt and thrive. Together, we will continue to find innovative solutions and seize new opportunities to ensure a prosperous future for all.
